Jesus offered the key to supernatural power. “Abide in me and I will abide in you. Just as the branch cannot produce fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me” (John 15:4).
Until you abide in Christ, Jesus has this to say about your expectations for recovery: “Don’t expect more of me than you have given me the power to do.”
Sinclair Ferguson wrote an amazing sermon, “What Does It Mean to Abide in Christ?” He suggested four things.
- Union with God depends on his grace.
- Union with Christ depends on obedience to him.
- This union is cemented by God’s love.
- We must walk each day in submission.
You can walk in victory. But don’t expect God to do more for you than you have given him the power to do, by simply abiding in Christ.
Recovery Step: Abide in Christ, then watch the power begin to flow.
