Teddy Roosevelt loved the outdoors. One of his favorite activities was what is called a point-to-point hike. It has one simple rule. Upon setting out for a particular destination, you may not alter your course. You have to hike in a straight line, no matter what. If you come to a wall, you climb over it. If you encounter a river, you swim across it. Instead of going around, you go through.
There was a guy in the Old Testament named Job. He seems to have followed Roosevelt’s advice. “My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside” (Job 23:11).
When he could have gone around the storm, Jesus went through it. When the psalmist could have circumvented the valley, he walked through it. And when our Lord could have bypassed Samaria, he passed through it.
