A boy stood on the baseball field and proclaimed, “I am the greatest hitter of all time!” He then tossed a ball into the air and took a huge swing. He missed.
Strike one.
He repeated, “I am the greatest hitter of all time!” Again, he tossed the ball into the air, swung, and missed.
Strike two.
The boy repeated, “I’m the greatest hitter of all time!” And once more, he swung at the ball and missed.
Strike three.
Unfazed, the boy declared, “I am the greatest pitcher of all time!”
The lesson? Don’t try to be something you’re not.
Recovery Step: Most of us fail because we are playing the wrong game. I suggest you play for an Audience of One – the God who looks on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
