Recovery is all about breaking old habits. The longer we wait, the more difficult the task. St. Augustine was right: “A habit, if it is not resisted, soon becomes a necessity.”
Jeremiah warned of the process of bad habits. “And like their bow, they have bent their tongues for lies. They are not valiant for the truth on the earth, for they proceed from evil to evil” (Jeremiah 9:3).
The key is to flip the switch. Trade your destructive habits for healthy ones. Make a habit of daily devotions, weekly groups, and consistent exercise. Try journaling each day, reading recovery material each morning, and checking in with God at night.
Recovery Step: Stop your bad habits. Replace them with good ones.
