Eugene Land was a self-made millionaire who was asked to speak to a class of 59 sixth graders at a school in Harlem. Based on historical trends, ten percent of those students would never graduate from high school. That would be six students.
Land’s message to the students was simple. “If you stay in school and graduate from high school, I will pay for part of your college tuition.” Six years later, 53 of those students – 90 percent of them – walked the stage at their high school graduation.
Hope will take us a long way.
There are two things you cannot do without if you plan to stay sober long-term.
- Hope
- The help of someone else
These students were given both – hope and help – by one man. God stands ready to do the same for you. In him we have hope. And he will provide everything you need to stay sober.
Recovery Step: Put your trust in the one who “will do more than we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
