Two guys were working for the city. One would dig a hole, and the other would come behind him and fill it back up. A bystander was watching in disbelief. He said to the hole digger, “I am impressed by your hard work, the way you dig each hole. But why does your partner come behind you and fill it up?”
The digger replied, “Oh, let me explain. There are usually three of us on the team. The guy who is supposed to come after me to plant the trees called in sick today.”
The Bible says, “All things must be done properly and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40).
Perhaps you’ve heard of the 12 Steps. There’s an old adage in 12-Step work that says the steps work if you work them. But like all aspects of recovery, you must work them.
Recovery Step: If your recovery is to be successful, you must do two things well: (a) plan your work, then (b) work your plan. Recovery must be done “properly and in order.”
