A young boy loved to go next door to play, even though his mother had told him not to. She asked him why he was so disobedient.
He replied that Satan had tempted him so badly that he did not know what to do.
His mom then advised him to say, “Get behind me, Satan,” whenever he was tempted in the future. She then built a fence around the house.
This worked for a week. Then one day his mom looked out the window and there was her son playing in the neighbor’s yard, having cut out a hole in the fence.
She yelled at her son and asked, “Didn’t I tell you to say, ‘Get behind me, Satan’ whenever he tempted you?”
“Yes,” said the boy. “I said, ‘Get behind me, Satan,’ but then he went behind me and pushed me through the hole in the fence.”
It’s easy to blame Satan for our own choices. Mark these words: James said, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
Recovery Step: Andrew Murray said, “God is ready to assume full responsibility for the life wholly yielded to him.” So go ahead. Yield.
