If you want to eat less ice cream, try this – don’t go into a store, buy a gallon of ice cream, take it home, and put it in your freezer, thinking you’ll never eat it.
If you think you can pull that off, well, you’re just goofy!
There are three things you cannot do:
- Jump off a building without things ending badly.
- Take home a gallon of ice cream without eating it all within 24 hours.
- Take in lustful thoughts without acting out.
Solomon asked the king of rhetorical questions: “Can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?” (Proverbs 6:28).
Avoiding the temptation in the first place is not depriving yourself of pleasure. It is actually setting you up for a huge win. Thomas Morton was right: “The biggest human temptation is to settle for too little.”
Recovery Step: If you do these three things, you will have a better future – stay out of the ice cream aisle, don’t jump off tall buildings, and run from every temptation.
