Today, a total stranger initiated a conversation with me about Liberty University. Why did he do this? Because he saw that I was wearing my Liberty shirt, which I often do, as a proud alumnus.
A few minutes later, I spoke to another stranger, this time because he was wearing a Houston Astros cap. Why? Because I have been a huge Astros fan since my first game in the Astrodome as a Cub Scout in 1968. (The Astros won baseball’s longest game, 1-0, in 24 innings.)
What we wear often makes a statement to those around us, about our allegiances or lifestyle choices. So here’s my question. How can someone tell you are in recovery, just from looking at you?
I suggest three possibilities:
- Wear a shirt that says, “Recovering Sex Addict.”
- Introduce yourself as a sex addict to everyone you meet.
- Live a life of integrity and character.
I recommend the third option.
Recovery Step: “They will know you by your fruit” (Matthew 7:16).
