An American art teacher by the name of Judson W. Van DeVenter wrote the following words, which would be published as a hymn in 1896. Living out these words would change the trajectory of his life forever.
All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give.
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet, I bow.
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
I surrender all.
I surrender all.
All to Thee my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
Quit trying to fight your own battles. Surrender to the One whose record is unblemished. Claim the promise of old: “The Lord will fight for you” (Deuteronomy 1:30).
Recovery Step: I leave you with two words – surrender all.
