First, there was the iPhone. Then there came the iPad, iPod, and iCloud.
Now there is the ibrik.
I’m sure our most tech-savvy readers will know what that is. For the rest of you, let me help. An ibrik is a metal pot with a wooden handle, used to brew Turkish coffee. The ibrik was used to win the world coffee brewing championship in St. Petersburg, in 2017.
Now I’m going to guess that when you saw “ibrik,” Turkish coffee-making wasn’t the first thing that came to mind. That’s how life is. What we think is not always reality.
In Ecclesiastes 5, Solomon talked about this. He said, “All man’s efforts are for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied” (5:7).
Addicts can relate. Their appetites are never satisfied. What looks to be one thing – like the ibrik – turns out to be something else. We think porn will satisfy our appetite. But it never does.
Recovery Step: Mistrust your instincts – in ibricks and porn. Things are rarely as they appear.
