I’m old-fashioned. I think a nation should actually enforce its own laws, whether I personally agree with every law or not.
Like in Providence, Rhode Island. It is against the law to sell both toothpaste and a toothbrush to the same customer on a Sunday. Does that make sense? Maybe not. But it’s the law.
In Kentucky, it is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket. Let me explain. This is an old law that was prevalent in several states to prevent horse theft. Thieves would put the cone in their back pocket to lure away horses. In Kentucky, that law is still on the books.
There are a couple of other old laws you may have heard of.
- “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14).
- “If you look at a woman with lust for her, you have already committed adultery in your heart” (Matthew 5:28).
It is not our job to debate the law but to follow it.
Recovery Step: God has set forth several rules for a reason. And if you break one of his laws, that law will break you.
