There is this ongoing debate among those who fancy themselves as both addiction specialists and theologians. The debate centers on one question – is addiction a sin?
Let me answer that for you with two truths.
- Addiction is not a sin.
- Acting out is.
Joyce Myer said, “No matter what has happened to you in the past or what is going on in your life right now, it has no power to keep you from having an amazingly good future if you will walk by faith in God. God loves you! He wants you to live with victory over sin so you can possess His promises for your life today!”
And where do we find those “promises”? In the Word of God. If you are to find the strength to overcome tomorrow, you must first find the time to spend in the Word today.
Dwight L. Moody liked to say, “The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible.”
Recovery Step: I leave you with the words of Paul. “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:11-12).
