J.C. Penny was asked the key to his success. His answer was succinct. “Adversity and Jesus Christ.”
Adversity is a part of life. You don’t get to decide whether or not you will have tough times. But you do get to decide how you will respond in those times.
We have this amazing promise: “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).
Rather than using up your entire prayer time by asking God to protect you from adversity, save some prayer time to ask him to use your times of adversity. J.C. Penny had it exactly right. Adversity plus Jesus Christ equals success.
Recovery Step: Learn from your hard times. Ask God to use them to mold you into someone different.
