On this date in history, 1962, Jack Parr hosted The Tonight Show for the last time. He quit the show in protest of its length, which was 1 hour, 45 minutes each night. NBC turned to an ABC game show host by the name of Johnny Carson, to be its next host. Carson agreed, on the condition that the show be shortened to 90 minutes.
In order for NBC to shorten the show, it took one host planting the idea, only to have it rejected. Then the next guy could get it done.
Have you ever sponsored another person in recovery? If not, you should! But here’s a lesson that is not easily learned. Your sponsee may not always take your counsel the first time he or she hears it. And that’s okay. You are not responsible for their response.
“God so loved that he gave” (John 3:16). God didn’t wait until he knew we were ready to receive his gift before he gave it.
God went first.
