Isolation is both a trigger and a fear. Being alone is a threat to our recovery, as we thrive on connection, which is the opposite of addiction.
Actor John Belushi’s final words were quite telling. Shortly before his death in 1982, he said, “Just don’t leave me alone.”
No one wants to be left alone.
Fortunately, we serve a God who offers connection. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great if your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’” (Lamentations 3:22-24).
Let me share the three ‘E’s of connection. With the right connection with others, we find:
- Enlightenment
- Encouragement
- Example
Remember, isolation from God and others is a choice, not a condition. You can always choose connection. You must always choose connection.
