Do you tend to be too hard on yourself? Meet the President of the “Too Hard on Myself” Club. Perhaps you’ve heard of him.
Leonardo da Vinci.
Noted as perhaps the most accomplished artist in history, da Vinci is credited with the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, two of the most revered paintings ever.
But da Vinci didn’t see himself as others did. In 1519, he said, “I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have.”
And then he died.
Paul said, “Run your best in the race of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12).
Once we do that, the rest is in God’s hands. I’m sure you’ve felt just like Leonardo. You have failed to be all you wish you could be. So you missed your goal of perfection. Now you need to settle for progress.
Which should have been your goal all along.
Recovery Step: Accept your failures and past. Do the next best thing, Strive for progress, not perfection.
