God uses famous people. Billy Graham and Mother Teresa come to mind. But he also uses less famous people. On the list of apostles, we find a man named James, who was in the inner circle of Jesus. He was a profound leader in first-century Christianity. But on that same list, we find another James, a guy named “James the lesser.”
How would you like that nickname? “The lesser.”
At the resurrection, we find Mary Magdalene, a significant figure in the Gospels. But by her side was an equal participant in the Easter story, also named Mary. She was referred to as “the other Mary” (Matthew 28:1).
Do you ever feel like a “lesser” or an “other”? I have felt that way many times. When I enrolled at my college, a professor said to me, “At our university, we will always know your name, Jim.”
I reminded him that Jim was my brother.
There is someone who knows your name. And regardless of how others see you, in his eyes, you will never be a “lesser” or an “other.” You will be a child of God, full of potential to build his Kingdom.
