On March 2, 1775, Patrick Henry spoke at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia. He offered this famous line: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.”
We should all cherish liberty as much as Patrick Henry did. Slaves to our addictions, we have been set free by God. Now we have to choose that freedom, to cherish it as much as life itself.
This would be a good mantra for each of us – “Give me sobriety or give me death!”
With sobriety comes freedom. As one who has lived on both sides – addiction and freedom – I am committed to living in freedom. You can claim the freedom Jesus came to give when he said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
Recovery Step: You can have liberty – from porn, sex addiction, and other strongholds. But like Patrick Henry, you must really want it.
