My dad had a briefcase with his initials engraved on the top of it, in rather large letters: LID.
Dad’s name was Lester Irvin Denison. He didn’t care for his name, but he loved his initials. You gotta love that! I mean, how many people do you know who have “LID” engraved on the top of their briefcase? (Play along with me; let’s assume people still carry briefcases.)
Dad protected his briefcase as if it contained the nuclear code. My brother and I respected that. Only Dad’s most important papers ever went into that briefcase. Not our stuff. No food, drinks, or comic books. And certainly not trash. We wouldn’t even think about putting trash into Dad’s briefcase, because it was his briefcase, not ours.
It would be nice if we treated God’s briefcase with the same respect.
Paul asked us a question: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Your body is God’s briefcase. Are you taking care of it? Are you filling it with healthy stuff, or with trash?
Recovery Step: Take a hard look at what you’re putting into your Father’s briefcase.
