Let’s talk lightning and giraffes.
We’ll start with lightning. There are 1.4 billion lightning strikes per year across the globe, which comes to 44 strikes per second. Lightning hits 270 people per year, and about 10 percent of those unfortunates die as a result.
But the news is even worse for giraffes.
From 1996 to 2020, studies were done that compared the frequency of lightning strikes against people versus giraffes, taking into account the size of their population. This is what was found. Giraffes are 30 times more likely to get hit by lightning than their human counterparts.
Giraffes need to keep their heads down.
That’s actually good advice for all of us. The Bible says, “Keep your eyes focused on what is right, and look straight ahead to what is good” (Proverbs 4:25).
Recovery Step: Don’t look back. Look ahead. Keep your eyes on Jesus.
