When Grandpa Jones celebrated his 100th birthday and 75th wedding anniversary simultaneously, his friends were impressed. “What is the key to your longevity?” they asked him.
Grandpa Jones: “Long walks in the outdoors.”
His friends asked what led him to spend so much time walking outside.
Grandpa Jones: “When we got married 75 years ago, my wife and I made a solemn pledge. Whenever we had a fight, the one who was wrong would go outside and take a walk.”
Let’s be specific. Guys, if you are the one whose habit traumatized your spouse, learn to listen to her, minister to her, and, when necessary, to take a walk.
Recovery Step: In the long process of husband and wife “becoming one” (Genesis 2:24), it is critical to learn when to speak, when to listen, and when to take a walk.
