A man was on his hands and knees under a street light late at night when another man passed by and asked what he was doing. The following discussion ensued.
“I’m looking for my wallet,” the man said.
“Are you sure you lost it here?” asked the passerby.
“No, I lost it at the other end of the street.”
“Then why are you looking for your wallet here?”
“Because there is a street light here.”
It is instinctive in each of us to do that which is easy, whether it is productive or not. This is especially true with recovery. We want to find recovery, but only if it can be found without much effort. So we continue to look in the wrong places.
Recovery Step: “God knows the secrets of the heart” (Psalm 44:21). It is only when we bring those secrets to the light that we get well.
