I love history and I love great success stories. And this is what I know – every great success story in history happened for one reason.
Someone refused to give up.
Hard work and daily practice reap benefits that cannot be found any other way. Malcolm Gladwell estimated that mastery in any field requires a minimum of 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. That would be 90 minutes a day for 20 years.
Author Gregg Levoy writes, “Passion isn’t just about exuberance, but endurance.”
Apply that to your recovery. You won’t find long-term sobriety because you are brilliant or discover the silver bullet. You will meet your recovery goals because you stayed in the battle, never gave up, and kept doing the right things over and over every single day.
Recovery Step: The Bible says, “Seek his presence continually” (1 Chronicles 16:11). Underline the word continually.
