There was a period in the history of Israel when God raised up a series of judges who provided leadership and guidance for his children. One of those judges was named Gideon.
You may recall that early in the story of Gideon, he was found hiding from the Midianites to avoid having his crops seized by them, when an angel of the Lord appeared to him. Calling him into battle, the angel told Gideon, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (Judges 6:12).
Did you get that? At a time when Gideon was anything but a “mighty warrior,” God considered him exactly that.
God sees past your present into what can be. He sees beyond the addiction, betrayal, and relapses. God sees a man or woman who is destined for something better, something significant. God does not define you by your worst moments but by your incredible future.
Recovery Step: Take a second look at yourself. See yourself as the person you are becoming, not the person you used to be. Then celebrate that.
