On January 20, 1987, Unsolved Mysteries began a run that lasted for 602 episodes. Hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Madden, and Robert Stack, the show unearthed some of the great mysteries that had never been solved.
Everyone loves a good mystery. Mystery books are the second most popular genre of books sold each year. Over 23 million mystery books have been written in modern times. Just one author, Agatha Christie, has sold three billion copies.
Even Jesus spoke in mysteries. They were called parables. The disciples asked him, “Why do you speak in parables?” (Matthew 13:10). Jesus responded, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven” (13:11).
Let’s add to the mystery. Why do addicts who attend weekly meetings enjoy greater sobriety than those who don’t? Why are clinical disclosures so beneficial to healing? Why do the 12 Steps work?
To some extent, it’s a mystery. But don’t question what works. Just do what works.
