I recently got a new pair of glasses. I can see clearly now. For those of you who have to squint to read this, you probably didn’t know that trees have leaves and those leaves change colors.
But sometimes we see too much. I would argue that there might actually be too much news on TV, too much clutter in our lives, and too much static in the world.
In 1900, ten percent of our time was spent gathering information. Today, that number is 80 percent. We can’t help ourselves.
German philosopher Joseph Pieper warned, “There’s so much to see that we miss it all.”
Fortunately, that is all going to change one day soon. “Now we see a dim reflection, as if we were looking into a mirror, but then we shall see clearly” (1 Corinthians 13:12).
Recovery Step: In recovery, what we see can get us into a lot of trouble. You can’t always help what you see. But you can determine what you notice.
