Let’s talk about Nicodemus.
Not that Nicodemus. I’m not talking about the fellow in John 3, who came to Jesus at night. I’m talking about the town named after him, in northern Kansas. In 1877, a few families settled in this remote part of a remote state. They named their fair city after the Pharisee who was made famous by his encounter with Christ. Perhaps the most famous words of Scripture were spoken to him.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
The early settlers of Kansas thought so highly of John 3:16 that they named their town after Nicodemus. Today, the town boasts a population of 14 people. But the legacy lives on.
This is a testament to the power of one Bible verse. And one man who relentlessly followed Jesus.
