On June 15, 2012, Nik Wallenda walked a tightrope that was suspended over Niagara Falls. That 1,500-foot steel wire could not be stabilized, so it swayed back and forth. As Wallenda inched his way across the wire, he prayed and sang praises to Christ with each step he took.
A few days before Christmas, 2020, I met Wallenda at a local mall. Thus, I know he made it across the wire in 2012.
As great as Wallenda is, there is one thing he has never done. Nik Wallenda has never run across a high wire. He takes it one step at a time.
That works in recovery as well. Forget about your ten-year chip. Focus your energy on the next day, next meeting, and next step.
Recovery Step: David prayed, “Make your way straight before me” (Psalm 5:8). That is a prayer God answers every time. The next step is yours. Not the next mile – just the next step.
