Jonah was hardly an exemplary example of integrity and obedience. But once he had been disciplined by God, once he had paid for his poor decisions, he came to one life-changing commitment.
The young prophet declared, “I will fulfill my vows” (Jonah 2:9).
One can question whether Jonah’s follow-through matched his intentions. At least for a while, he did well. Jonah went to Nineveh, preached to the people, and saw massive results. But it all began with those five words.
“I will fulfill my vows.”
If you are a sex addict, your shortcoming has not been a lack of vows. We have all made enough vows. Your spouse has heard it all. “I won’t watch any more porn.” “There will be no more affairs.” “I’m done with masturbation.”
You’ve said enough already. No one is waiting for another promise. They are waiting for you to fulfill your vows.
