In my world, people fall into one of two groups. They are either walking in purity and freedom or they want to be. Those who want to be may be holding onto old habits or embedded in unhealthy relationships. They want out, but they just aren’t ready yet.
St. Augustine once quipped, “Lord, help me to be pure, but not yet.”
There are a lot of “not yet” addicts. They love the promise of Christ: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). They want to see God. They want to be free. They want to live lives of integrity.
But not yet.
No one can push you into recovery. That is a decision you must make for yourself. If you are in the “not yet” group, ask God to give you a passion for freedom, a passion to see God.
Recovery Step: Are you ready to break free? Are you ready to see God? If your answer is, “Not yet,” ask God to do whatever it takes to move you toward “Absolutely!”
