If you decide to run 100 yards in a straight line, but are off by just one degree, you will miss your target by five feet. If you head to the moon, but are off by one degree, you will miss your mark by 4,196 miles. If you aim for the sun, but are off by one degree, you will miss your target by 1.6 million miles.
Almost isn’t good enough. Especially in recovery.
Here are some examples:
- “Almost sober” = drunk
- “90% in” = 100% out
- “Mostly faithful” = unfaithful
Close works for dancing and hand grenades, but not sobriety.
Recovery Step: The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The word for “sin” is hamartia, meaning to miss the mark, even by a little bit. The point is to go all in, don’t settle, and never compromise.
