One day at a time.
We hear that at 12-Step meetings all the time. And it’s true. We can only claim sobriety one day at a time. That may be as important a truism as you will ever hear in the recovery world.
For validation of this principle, we need look no further than that wise old sage, Charlie Brown. He announced, “I have a new philosophy. Only dread one day at a time.”
And an even wiser sage said it like this: “Sufficient to the day is the trouble thereof” (Matthew 6:34).
But it’s not enough to take recovery one day at a time. It’s what you do each of those days that matters – calls, readings, prayers, Step work, exercise, meditation, etc.
Recovery Step: Nail down one thing you will do to stay sober for the next 24 hours.
