It’s harder to eat one Oreo than none.
Is there something you need to say no to? In many instances, abstinence is easier than moderation. Why? It requires less willpower because you rely on a strong decision making process in advance. Moderation is a slippery slope. In my experience, it’s harder to eat one Oreo than no Oreos. If you feed a craving, it grows.
Think about temptation. We all face temptation. And the temptation is to give in to the temptation just a little bit, hoping the temptation will just go away.
It never does.
So what’s the answer? Decide before you have to decide. That way, the next time temptation knocks on your door, you won’t have to even think about opening that door, because you already made that decision.
Recovery Step: Moderation is a slippery slope. So go all in with God, no turning back. “And may your hearts be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands” (1 Kings 8:61).
