Nothing is so devastating as discovering that your spouse is addicted to porn. But there is hope. Sharon Salzberg said, “Even in the midst of devastation, something within us always points the way to freedom.” That is true for the addict and his/her spouse.
God promised, “I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you’” (Isaiah 41:13).
While the pain is not good, its lessons often are. Stephen Covey said it like this: “Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition, we develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.”
Let me offer a few suggestions on how to get through the pain.
- Celebrate how far you have already come.
- Rename adversity. Call it “opportunity.”
- Find one lesson from the journey.
