Until you take ownership of the problem, you won’t take responsibility for the solution.
That is one of the fundamental truths of recovery. Most of us had some form of trauma at the genesis of our addiction. Or abuse. Or isolation. Or all three.
None of that is on you. But what comes next is on you.
When the judgment was announced to Daniel, he responded, “I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: ‘We have sinned and done wrong’” (Daniel 9:4, 5).
Did you catch that? No excuses. No blame game. Daniel owned it. He said, “We have sinned.” He said, “We have done wrong.”
Let me rephrase the words of Daniel.
Until you take ownership of the problem, you won’t take responsibility for the solution.
Recovery Step: Every slip and relapse you have ever had was a choice. Own it. Then – and only then – you can move forward.
