Addiction has dealt a devasting blow to you or someone close to you. Now you have a decision to make. Will you focus on all you have lost, or on all you have left.
Vincent Van Gogh was all about what he had left. Did you know he only had one ear? On an episode of The Office, Michael Scott imagined this conversation might have gone down one day.
Someone said to Vincent, “You can’t be a great painter because you only have one ear.”
Vincent replied, “I can’t hear you.”
One of the great secrets to success in any endeavor is one’s ability to turn a deaf ear to his critics. Quit listening to the wrong voices! Anyone who tells you what you can’t do has no business taking up space in your life.
Listen for the Voice that matters. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8).
You don’t need two ears to paint. Nor do you need a genius mind, amazing willpower, or incredible insight to stay sober.
Recovery Step: God has already equipped you to stay sober for the next 24 hours. Never forget that.
