“Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord” (Isaiah 29:15).
When we were children, my brother and I loved to play hide-and-seek with our Dad. We would run and hide somewhere while Dad counted to 20, and then he’d come looking for us. Somehow, we thought that if we couldn’t see the tips of our feet sticking out from under the curtains, Dad couldn’t see them, either.
There are two reasons you need to quit playing hide-and-seek with God.
- He still sees you.
- You need to be fully known.
Isaiah pronounced a great warning on those who “go to great depths” to hide from the Lord. But don’t miss the keyword – plans.
Of course, we should not hide from God. But further than that, we need to quit hiding our plans from God. We need to confess our plans, intents, and desires. Not just our actions.
Recovery Step: Addiction follows a seven-step cycle. We see it, think it, plan it, do it, hate it, cover it, and do it again. Never let your fantasies get to the planning stage. And if you have done that, confess those plans to the Lord.
