“Plant gardens and eat what they produce” (Jeremiah 29:5).
Let me translate that for you. If you want to enjoy a good recovery tomorrow, you need to do good recovery work today. If long-term sobriety sounds like a worthy goal, you need to plant a good garden today. Here are a few of the plants you might want to include in your garden:
- Weekly recovery meetings
- 12-Step work
- Accountability software
- Spiritual disciplines
- Physical exercise
When you plant your garden, be willing to work hard at tilling the soil and establishing the roots. What you put into it will determine the measure you get back. Robert Arnott said, “In investing, what is comfortable is rarely profitable.”
Do the hard work of recovery. What you plant today will bring a great harvest tomorrow.
Recovery Step: Do something today that tomorrow will thank you for.
