Sadly, modern culture has degenerated to the point that many are now defending the indefensible.
Writing in Salon, Anna Pulley said, “Unlike physical sex, watching porn spreads no diseases, leads to zero pregnancies, and doesn’t engage with vicious judgments. Plus, using porn to satisfy one’s sexual needs is safe, free-to-cheap, and convenient. And it can even be used as a sex aid for real life sex, as many couples can attest.”
We have always been anxious to justify our actions, no matter how abhorrent they may be. We do this in two ways:
- We minimize our behavior.
- We maximize our intent.
We like to say that what we did (viewing porn in this instance) wasn’t really that bad. And our intent was actually good.
Recovery Step: I have yet to meet the man or woman who could look me in the eye and say porn was a good idea. To the contrary, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). That is the inescapable truth.
