We choose people based on what they have already done. That’s true with the NFL draft, job openings, and marriage proposals. We don’t hire potential.
Imagine a senior pastor telling his leadership team he has found the perfect student pastor. He describes the candidate thusly: “This young man is bright, has great leadership traits, and is very organized.”
“Does he have any weaknesses?” an elder asks.
“Just one,” says the senior pastor. “He is a member of the Taliban.”
That would be considered a bad hire.
But God does go for potential. He will take anybody.
Solomon said, “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day” (Proverbs 4:18).
Recovery Step: God has set forth a “path of righteousness” before you. He awaits you as you take your first step. God hires potential.
