The story is told of an Indian brave who discovered an eagle’s egg that had fallen off a cliff. He placed the egg with several prairie chicken eggs. When the prairie chicken eggs hatched alongside the eagle’s egg, the birds all grew up together. The eagle took on the identity of a prairie chicken.
One day, an eagle flew overhead. The young eagle on the ground looked up with great admiration. Assuming he was a prairie chicken, he wondered what it must be like to be an eagle.
Several years passed, and the young eagle saw another elder eagle flying overhead. This time, that eagle swooped down and joined the younger eagle on the ground. After a lengthy conversation, he said to the eagle who thought he was a prairie chicken, “Don’t you know you are an eagle? You were created to fly.”
Quit living the life of a prairie chicken, mired in addiction and living in your past. You’re an eagle. It’s time to soar.
Recovery Step: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
