Everyone wants to be a winner. I’ve never met a person who wanted to fail at anything, including recovery. Yet, so many fail.
Why is that?
Coach Bear Bryant nailed it. He said, “It’s not the will to win that matters. Everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.”
We all want to be sober tomorrow, but too few are willing to do the things today that will make that happen. Solomon addressed this head-on: “Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house” (Proverbs 24:27).
So here’s your challenge. For today, don’t try to be sober. Prepare to be sober. Do the things today that will bring positive results tomorrow. Attend a meeting, read recovery material, make a call, pray the 3rd Step Prayer. Do something today that tomorrow will thank you for.
Recovery Step: Prepare today to be sober tomorrow.
