I don’t know if national leaders outside the United States provide much comedic material, but I am confident America’s leaders – past and present – stand at the forefront of such things. Here are just a few funny lines from some of our leaders. (Note – presidential humor is a bipartisan phenomenon.)
- “Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt” (Herbert Hoover, 1928).
- “I stand by all the misstatements that I’ve made” (Dan Quayle, 1989).
- “They misunderestimated me” (George W. Bush, 2000).
- “I may not be right, but I know a great deal” (Joe Biden, 2018).
The need for a good laugh goes way back – to the Book of Proverbs. The man of wisdom wrote, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
Laughter is a good thing. Laughter is of God. Laughter is good for recovery.
