Which of these five things are absolutely necessary to obtain sobriety?
- Therapy
- Meetings
- 12-Step work
- Accountability
- Sobriety plan
Answer: none of the above
I bet you didn’t expect that answer, did you? Of course, each of these are keys to lasting recovery. But I said, “absolutely necessary.”
Before you send an angry email or cut off your $500 monthly support to our ministry, hear me out.
Peter said, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life” (2 Peter 1:3).
So, yes, do the other stuff – therapy, meetings, Step work, accountability, and a sobriety plan. But isn’t it good to know that you can be sober today? Right now? This instant?
Recovery Step: You don’t need to wait another second to get sober. God’s divine power has given you everything you need for a godly life. Already.
