One of the least likely people was awarded the right to be among the first to see the resurrected Christ. Mary Magdalene stood in the empty tomb. And then we read this intriguing verse: “She turned around and saw Jesus, but she did not recognize him” (John 20:14).
Now, it would be so easy to pile on. How could Mary not recognize Jesus?
But with even the smallest dose of self-reflection, we must acknowledge that we, too, often don’t recognize Jesus.
Sometimes, he shows up in the form of a kind saint, a gentle breeze, an encouraging word, or a pretty sunset. But we miss it. Worse yet, we miss him.
Recovery is a spiritual process. You need the God you may not always recognize. I can’t promise you that he will show up with a booming voice or loud sermon. But I can promise you this – he will show up.
Recovery Step: Stay on your toes. The God of your recovery is about to show up. You don’t want to miss him.
