“Some of you chaps should go home and take naps.”
– Dr. Seuss
There are five primary triggers that make us want to act out. You can remember them with the acronym “B.L.A.S.T.” We tend to relapse when we are . . .
- Bored
- Lonely
- Angry
- Stressed
- Tired
Let’s talk about that last one – tired. One of the worst things you can do that will put your recovery at risk is to stay up too late, not get enough sleep, and work too hard. Hear the words of Jesus. Better yet, respond to the words of Jesus: “Come to me, you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Recovery Step: Practice good self-care. Get enough rest. Work on your spiritual connection. If you are tired, come to Jesus.
