A friend in recovery recently told me, “I thought I hit rock bottom, but it was the Rock of Ages.”
For many of us, it was when we hit bottom that we found God. James said it like this: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” (James 4:10).
No matter how deep your addiction has taken you, know that the Rock of Ages can sustain you. Let the timeless words of 18th century songwriter Augustus Toplady sit with you for a moment:
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in thee.
Let the water and the blood,
From thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.
Recovery Step: You have been a slave to sin and addiction long enough. Trust the Rock of Ages, your double cure.
