One of the keys to making good habits is to establish good routines. But once the routine becomes routine, you have to change it. This is known as the law of requisite variety. For example, if you always work out the same way, your workout will eventually lose its effectiveness, as your body adapts to the routine. You have to confuse your muscles by interrupting the pattern.
We serve a God who said, “I am about to do something new” (Isaiah 43:19).
Here are a few things you might want to switch up:
- Attend a new meeting.
- Find a new recovery partner.
- Read a new book.
- Rework an old Step.
Recovery Step: Think of something today that you can change tomorrow.
