In life, there are times when it makes sense to be adventurous. Throw caution to the wind.
But not with your recovery. Learn to play it safe, especially with the opposite sex.
I’ve seen hundreds of men fall back into their addiction because of what seemed like innocent banter with a woman who was not their wife. Let me suggest a simple formula for keeping it safe with your recovery – regarding the opposite sex. Avoid these topics in your conversations with them:
- Sexual – Don’t ever discuss anything sexual with the opposite sex.
- Affirmations – Never affirm them in private.
- Feelings – Avoid the slippery slope of being a “good listener.”
- Empathy – You aren’t their counselor. They need emotional support – but not from you.
Learn to play it S.A.F.E. with the opposite sex. The psalmist wisely said, “For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in the shelter of his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tent; he will set me high” (Psalm 27:5).
Recovery Step: Play it S.A.F.E. with the opposite sex.
